Bangor Gas Company notice to customers:
On March 22, 2007 Bangor Gas Company LLC filed a petition with the Maine Public Utilities Commission for approval of a proposed reorganization involving the sale of Sempra Energy's stock in Penobscot Natural Gas, Inc. to Energy West, Incorporated, pursuant to 35-A M.R.S.A. § 708. Bangor Gas is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Penobscot Natural Gas, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sempra Energy. The MPUC has assigned the case Docket No. 2007-151. On May 7, 2007 the Public Advocate filed a Petition to Intervene. To approve this reorganization, the Commission must determine that it is consistent with the interests of Bangor Gas' ratepayers and investors.
Bangor Gas is currently operating under a 10-year rate plan due to expire in the 4th quarter of 2009. The rate plan allows the company to remain competitive with alternative fuels while placing a limit on the amount of profit the company can earn. As part of the reorganization, Bangor Gas has requested that the Commission extend the rate plan for an additional three years, to the 4th quarter of 2012, to ensure the mechanism by which Bangor Gas' rates and charges are set remains unchanged. Customers of Bangor Gas should see no changes to their natural gas service or their billing under this proposal.
