By order of the Public Utilities Commission, your monthly bill now includes an additional $0.01487 per therm in your transportation charge.

  • Why the charge? The assessment helps fund energy efficiency programs administered by efficiency Maine Trust. The Maine Public Utilities Commission authorized the assessment in support of the Omnibus Energy Bill by the legislature (LD 1559 in June 2013).
  • How much will this cost me a year? The assessment is $0.01487 per therm. An average-sized home in Maine consumes about 1,000 therms per year, which is an assessment amount of $15 per year.
  • Will the charge go away? No. The assessment is on each therm used going forward unless there is a rule change from the Public Utilities Commission.
  • Is there any way I can benefit from the assessment? Yes. The Efficiency Maine Trust has efficiency rebate programs available to help you conserve energy and save money over the long term.
